WebToon Favorites 2020: Top 10 Romance WebToon Comics

This is my Top 10 WebToon Comics for the Romance Genre

I love reading about love. I’m a sucker for a romantic comedy, and the cheesier, the better. I adore reading about love triangles, characters who are obvious about their crushes on one another, and anything that would make my heart go ‘doki-doki’

Below is a list of my personal Top 10 WebToon Comics that made me giggle and grin like a bright-eyed high school girl. Heads up, they are in alphabetical order.

across the bridge by elleoser

across the bridge is a wonderful series that centers around the residents of an apartment complex. Unlike most of the stories on this list, this tale features a multitude of characters, and there really are no ‘main characters’ to be seen.

Reading this feels like experiencing a bunch of one-shots, which means that no two couples feel the same. The cast is very diverse, both in the individuals and in the pairings.

across the bridge is still a relatively new series, it has 17 comic strips as of writing this article and updates rather slowly. I highly recommend giving this series a try and subscribing to it since the updates are not as predictable as many of the others on this list.

Familiar Feelings by Violet Karim

Familiar Feelings is an adorable romance that takes place in a fantasy setting. It’s an ongoing series that is currently on hiatus.

The main character is a girl who attends a magical university where she’s to learn how to become a witch, the catch is that she’s supposed to find a familiar, and there are two candidates. One of them is a vampire, and the other is a werewolf.

Naturally, the werewolf and the love-triangle aspects of this series drew me in, and the story kept me interested.

If you want a short series that you’d like to get started with, Familiar Feelings has 26 comic strips as of posting this blog post. It should give you enough time to get caught up just in time for when the series start updating periodically once again.

Let’s Play by Mongie

If you don’t know, I love gaming and Let’s Play YouTube Channels (see my YouTube list here). Let’s Play revolves around two neighbors, one of them is a famous Let’s Player and the other is a game developer.

While these two characters are the ‘main ones’, there are several other characters in this series that makes me almost want to claim that they all are main characters in their own right.

This ongoing series has 102 comic strips as of writing this post and I still feel so torn about who I want everyone to end up with. This is especially true for the female protagonist who I believe should end up being with one character, but I’m unsure if the series is going to give me that ending or if it’ll sink another ship that I’m building.

Lore Olympus by Rachel Sythe

Lore Olympus was the comic that made download the WebToon app.

It’s a retelling of the Greek myth of The Taking of Persephone, but with a modern twist.

It’s a series that is still in progress, and I look forward to all the updates that come up. It does contain mature and sensitive content in a few chapters, but there are well-placed warnings to help people who may have trauma to skip over the sections.

The art is very stylized and is unlike other comics on WebToon. It’s sketchy, it’s dreamlike, and I like it very much. The color palette is bright and vivid, giving each character their own color to make them stand out amongst the crowd.

As of writing this post, there are 98 comic strips. Besides the main two characters (Persephone and Hades), my favorite character has to be Eros.

LUFF by Arechan

LUFF is an ongoing series that takes place in an alternate universe that relies on technology for matchmaking. LUFF determines not only who you are ‘supposed to marry but it also affects other aspects of one’s life like social standing and credit score.

The story revolves around a female protagonist that gets paired with not one but two eligible matches. Both male protagonists are lovable in their own way, and it makes it difficult to pick who you’d want her to be with in the end.

One notable thing I’d like to mention is that it seems like this series takes place in South America, where my mother’s side of the family is from, which is awesome.

Update: This is a series that is complete, and goodness, it certainly was a trip! If you want to read something that has a conclusion (because you want to binge a comic), then go for this one!

#muted by kandismon

#muted is an ongoing series that is a mixture of Slice of Life and Romance.

It’s a ‘boy-love’ story that features two male characters that fall in love and deal with the typical ups and downs that comes with being a couple. The twist is that Kai, one of the male leads, doesn’t speak.

The way that they handle his silence is heartwarming, and I love that, as a viewer, you can see the ways that all the characters find new ways to communicate with him.

As someone who loves the idea of inclusivity and diversity, I love this comic! This especially hits close to home since I used to be mute early on in life, so seeing some positive representation here is great. There are currently 58 stripes as of writing this article

Update: This series is complete! I admittedly started to lose interest about 3/4ths of the way through the series, but I stuck through it to the end.

Super Secret by eon

Super Secret is a complete series that tells the tale of a human girl and her childhood best friend. The ‘twist’ about this story is that her best friend has a secret, he’s actually a supernatural creature, a werewolf!

The art style is adorable, and I love the gentle color palette that the author uses. It has a simplistic art style that lends itself really well to the WebToon app.

Update: This series is complete! I was so sad when it was over, but goodness it was such a good read. Personally, I think it went a bit too ‘action-focused’ towards the end, but I’m glad I stuck with it and would recommend it.

Siren’s Lament by instantmiso

The art style of Siren’s Lament is breathtaking. I love it so much.

It’s an ongoing series that stars a female protagonist by the name of Lyra, who learns about the supernatural world of mermaids and sirens.

It has everything for a good dramatic romance; secrets, cute guys, and love triangles.

Update: This series is complete! I loved everything about it from beginning to end. Most (if not all) of the characters were developed so nicely, and it was certainly difficult to say ‘goodbye’ to this series.

The Kiss Bet by Ingrid Ochoa

The Kiss Bet is a series that is still in progress.

It takes place in a high school setting and stars a teenage girl named Sara Lin. Her dilemma throughout the tale is fussing about having her first kiss.

What’s unique about this story is how Sara and her friend enjoy giving each other challenges or dares. It’s cute, it’s childish, and results in lots of drama. I like the art and enjoy the bright colors used in the comic strips. I enjoy how different all the characters look, which makes it easy for me to know new characters as they come up and follow along with the story.

As of writing this post, there are 36 comic strips. I personally hope that Sara ends up with “Subway Boy”, but I’d love to hear who you are rooting for!

True Beauty by Yaongyi

True Beauty is an ongoing series about a girl who isn’t your ‘typically beautiful woman.’

She has average looks with plenty of acne. This leads to the main character living a double life, one of an average-looking comic book fan who loves being comfortable at home and the stylish and beautifully made-up social media icon.

The art is gorgeous, and it’s hard not to fall in love with the main characters who appear in this comic. As of writing, True Beauty has 78 comic strips. It’s definitely a bit of an emotional rollercoaster reading it, and that’s probably why it’s labeled as a ‘Drama’ as opposed to ‘Romance’. Whoops, but I’m still keeping it on this list.

Honorable Mention for Romance on WebToon

Cursed Princess Club by LambCat

I know Cursed Princess Club is listed as a Comedy, but like… I love the budding romance between Princess Gwendolyn and her fiance Prince Frederick. They are so cute together, and now that they are ‘just friends’, they now have the opportunity to get to know one another without feeling pressured about getting married. It’s a super cute comic that I look forward to reading every week when it updates.

However, since it’s listed as a ‘comedy’, if you are looking for drama and lots of romance, this might not be your cup of tea. It’s an ongoing series that currently has 53 comic strips.

Do you have WebToon?

If so, what series do you recommend for me to read? I’m a sucker for romance and comedy, especially if the two are intermingled. Slice of Life is another favorite of mine, and anything featuring wolves or werewolves are appreciated as well. What’s your favorite series to read?
