20-Something Year Old in a Teen's Body : Introduction

Imagine this:

You are in a public place, and I, a petite 4’10” lady greets you. Here are the three things that you would assume about me:

  • I'm a teenager

  • I'm white

  • I never had surgery

However, you'd be wrong, and if we put money on the table, I'd be a whole lot richer. Heck, I'd be able to buy all the new fancy gadgets that Apple releases every single year if I got sweet, sweet cash for every time someone guessed my age wrong. Apparently, asking for a woman's age does not apply to me.

Here are a few "interesting" facts about me:

  • I'm 25+ years old

  • I'm Latina, Cuban and Uruguayan mix

  • I have a titanium hip

  • My grandmother is younger than my father

Is any of this information relevant? Probably not. However, it's a quick lesson not to immediately judge a book by its cover. Several movies, such as Beauty and the Beast, already cover this, but a real-life example can prove that it’s a valuable lesson as opposed to a quick way for Disney to rack up dollars at the box office.

I'm sure that you have stories of assumptions people make about you at a glance.

Everyone does.

You have to embrace your labels

There are certain labels that, unfortunately, no amount of make-up, heels, hair-dos, or workouts can change for you. One of the few things that will change any labels is an open mind and good old conversation. It takes only a few minutes of questions and answers for people to realize that I'm certainly not a teen and that si, yo hablo Espanol.

This truth can either set you free or put you down. Regardless there is close to nothing you can do about it. People that you meet each have their own tale to tell and usually will not change their perspective on the world, and you, unless they get to know you. In this blog, you will get to know me. A lot about me, and you know what, that's okay.

We'll be friends. amigos

I hope that by reading this and future posts, that you'll learn not only about me but also about you. The struggles I go through on a daily basis are probably some that you experience as well. The lessons that I learn about life and the hobbies I enjoy will probably apply to you as well. Learn from my mistakes as I admit them to you on this site and learn from history so you don't repeat it.

Life is an adventure, let's enjoy it together.
