Want a quick way to ‘light up’ your life?
YOU CAN USE A CANDLE, LOTS OF THEM ARE CHEAP & UPLIFTING
I was gifted the Star★Lytes candle by my grandmother. This is one of the items that I still have in my room that does not bring me joy… Yet I’m keeping it.
As I mentioned in my introductory post for this series, The Things I Carry, I will be discussing why I have kept my Star★Lytes Lavender Bouquet Scented Candle from my Minimalist Adventure. You can consider this an informal review of sorts and if you want to know why my thoughts on this product are so negative (yet I’m still keeping it), then read on.
I love candles.
This was not always the case. I used to only light candles whenever the lights went out in my neighborhood and my family scrambled around the house to light it up with various candles. Candles to me were practical items to be used during these moments. When candles were not needed, they were stored in drawers or were decorative household items.
However I was gifted a candle during a Secret Santa event a few years back. Ever since I decided to use my gift, I have slowly but surely grown an appreciation and love for candles.
So if I love candles, why am I not fond of my Star★Lytes candle?
You’ll have to keep reading to find out.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT STAR★LYTES LAVENDER BOUQUET SCENTED CANDLE
It’s a gift- My grandmother purchased this for me after figuring out that I enjoy using candles in my room. It’s a gift that I appreciate and use on an almost daily basis.
It’s a lavender candle- Lavender is notorious for calming people down. As someone who considers having lots of high nervous energy, I think Lavender is a great thing to counter-balance that.
It’s cheap- My grandma did not need to spend a lot to show that she cares about me. It’s also great for people who want to buy a candle, but don’t want to give away their hard earned check for it.
WHAT DOESN’T WORK ABOUT STAR★LYTES LAVENDER BOUQUET SCENTED CANDLE
It doesn’t smell- I’ll light up the candle in my room and I will not smell anything. This could be due to my horrible sense of smell as I’ve mentioned in the past.
The wick is awful- When I do light up my candle, it sometimes takes up to three matches to set the wick on fire. I’m 1/4 done with the candle and the wick is already burnt and difficult to work with. It makes me waste matches and on rare occasions, I’ll get close to burning my fingertips.
OTHER THOUGHTS ABOUT STAR★LYTES LAVENDER BOUQUET SCENTED CANDLE
Overall, I am not happy with my scented candle. I do like seeing the candle lit up in my room, but I wish I could actually smell the lavender. However I plan on using up this candle before either tossing it or giving the emptied out jar to someone.
Sometimes, when it comes to minimalism and decluttering, the best thing you can do is just use up an item and make sure you don’t purchase a new one till the old one is complete. That’s what I plan to do with my scented candle.
A temporary solution I want to try to resolve the “lack of smell” issue is getting some Lavender oils and adding it to the candle. What do you guys think?
DO YOU HAVE A favorite candle?
Personally I love Woodwick Candles. Those things are awesome since they smell nice, look nice, and make an awesome crackling sound as they burn. However I’d love to hear what candles you’d recommend for me to try out once I use my Lavender Bouquet Scented Candle out.
